Oluwafikemi Aiyepeku (’17) Wins Global Online Academy’s Catalyst for Change Prize

Fikemi Aiyepeku, a Nigerian 2nd year student at ALA was one of ten students selected from more than 500 presenters to receive the Catalyst for Change Prize for her project, Practical Feminism: #WomanEnough.

The GOA Catalyst for Change Prize, the most prestigious of the conference, is awarded by a panel of advocacy experts to projects that have demonstrated exceptional thoughtfulness, planning, and potential for enduring change.

The campaign #WomanEnough stems from a student movement started by fellow ALA student Lobna Jbeniani (’17), called Practical Feminism – a platform for ALA women to support ourselves and each other professionally and intellectually.

“The role of women is breaking out of the stereotypical “homely” one and this is so important in diversifying the world because women have so much potential, strength, and influence that without them, the world will not be where it is today,” says Fikemi, who also served as the Director of Administration for ALAMAU 2019. “Women being able to step out and take leadership positions by the horn, not to mention succeeding at it, clearly proves that women and the path they advocate for – unity, peace and progress – could and should be the future.”
