ALA Co-Founder Fred Swaniker honored at the 2019 #Time100.

On April 23, 2019 ALA Co-Founder Fred Swaniker was honored in New York City as a member of the Time 100: Most Influential People in the World 2019

Fred was honored for his work with the African Leadership Group and his commitment to developing 3 million leaders for Africa.

He is one of five Africans on the list – alongside Cyril Ramaphosa, Caster Semenya, Abiy Ahmed, and Mo Salah.

“Time 100 was an unexpected surprise!” Fred says. “I am merely the representative of a great team of people ALU ; African Leadership Academy ; and ALU School of Business – and of many, many other outstanding young AFRICAN leaders—they inspire me every day.”

In a toast at the TIME 100 gala yesterday, Fred said “All of us who are privileged enough to be healthy, to be alive, to have education and to have influence, our role is not to do small things and to solve small problems. The only way that we can justify privilege is by solving the world’s biggest problems, and by doing hard things.”

Watch below as Fred shares his motivation to persevere through adversity in a powerful toast at the Gala.
