As a part of its commitment to each young leader's lifelong journey, ALA strives to build a strong intellectual foundation with robust coursework that prepares students for university success - and a lifetime of learning.

In its short history, the quality of ALA's intellectual preparation has been made clear with some spectacular academic successes. 

  • ALA regularly has performers leading South Africa on Cambridge University A-level examinations, and three ALA students have placed in the Top 10 in the world on their subject exams - the most widely-administered pre-university exams in the world.
  • ALA students are currently studying at every Ivy League university on scholarship.
  • Seven ALA students have been selected as Robertson Scholars to either Duke University or the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
  • ALA students have won top positions in the Southern Africa Science Olympiad, winning scholarly trips to London, England, and Sydney, Australia.
  • ALA had a world-class 98% A-Level pass rate in 2011.
  • ALA's young leaders have accepted over $21 Million US dollars in university scholarship funding and been offered admission to universities across Africa and around the world, including Harvard, Oxford, London School of Economics, Stanford, MIT, Aseshi University, the University of Cape Town and universities in Germany, South Korea and France.
