Festus Mogae

Former President, Botswana

Festus Mogae is the Former President of Botswana 1998–2008. He is also a former Wilson Center Public Policy Scholar. He leads the organization, Champions for an HIV Free Generation in Africa, and chairs the Council of Elders. In 2008, Mogae was awarded the Grand Cross of the Légion d’honneur by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and won the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership. He currently serves as Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Climate Change. Moagae attended University College, in Oxford, UK, and received an Honours Degree in Economics from Oxford University as well as a Degree in Development Economics from Sussex University.
