Jon Cummings

Director, McKinsey & Company

Jon is a Director at McKinsey & Company and has been with the firm since 1987. Jon began his career in Chicago and was in South Africa from 1994 to 2002, where he co-founded the Johannesburg Office and was the Office Manager for seven years. During this time he built an extensive network of corporate leaders in South Africa and the broader continent.

Jon currently is the leader of McKinsey’s Americas Packaged Goods practice and is based in New Jersey. Jon is on the Board of Directors of the Rita Allen Foundation and the African Leadership Foundation. He also currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the Center for Customer Insights at the Yale School of Management.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Jon was a Marshall scholar at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London. He also received his BA from Yale University in the U.S. and a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics in the U.K.

Jon has been instrumental to the launch of African Leadership Academy. He recruited Fred Swaniker to McKinsey and Company, and helped him develop professionally. When Fred started working on ALA, Jon and his wife Holly Hegener were an early source of support and encouragement. Jon has been an important donor, friend, and anchor for ALA over the years.
