Mopati Morake

Mopati joined ALA in 2011 after graduating from Williams College with a degree in Political Science. He joined as a teaching fellow, where he taught in the Writing & Rhetoric faculty, served as a Hallmaster, and coached basketball.

Pursuing his passion for teaching, learning and education reform, Mopati pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching at Smith College in 2013. While at Smith, Mopati was a Project Coach fellow, serving as staff member and mentor in a local non-profit that empowered inner city youth in Springfield, Massachusetts. During the year, Mopati also taught History at Northampton High School.

In 2014, he returned to ALA to assume his current role, teaching with the African Studies and Writing & Rhetoric teams, with a focus on building an innovative and integrated humanities program, and well as developing a teacher training program for fellows and coordinating Seminal Readings.

Born in Botswana and raised on four continents, Mopati enjoys travelling, live music and sports.
