Global Scholars Program (GSP)
A 10-day or 18-day, global leadership summer program for teens aged 13-19.
Built around ALA’s unique Entrepreneurial Leadership and African Studies curriculum, GSP prepares future leaders to explore their potential to create widespread change in Africa and around the world. Participants practice leadership by working in social ventures in the Johannesburg community, learn from chats with prominent entrepreneurial leaders in South Africa, build a global network with other young leaders from around the world, and discover the history, beauty, and diversity of Africa.
Catalyst Term (Study Abroad/Gap Year)
A study abroad experience for secondary students from around the world to develop as social innovators.
Catalyst Term participants join ALA's community of over 200 young African leaders and its international faculty at ALA’s boarding school in Johannesburg, South Africa. Through immersion in ALA’s Entrepreneurial Leadership curriculum and studying side-by-side with ALA’s young leaders, Catalyst Term participants develop as Catalysts for social change.
Model African Union
A conference designed to provide young leaders with an opportunity to explore the inner workings of the African Union, and to practice international diplomacy by assuming the roles of African leaders.
ALAMAU is a five day conference affording young leaders from secondary schools around the world the opportunity to resolve, in five days of intense brainstorming and negotiations, some of the longest-running and most complicated issues on the continent.
The conference experience is not limited to committee sessions; through keynote presentations by African Union officials and foreign policy experts, a diplomatic roundtable featuring ambassadors from several countries, educational tours to historic sites, and a celebration of cultural diversity through the Cultural Night, delegates experience a highly intellectual, educative, and exciting conference.
Africa's premier award for young entrepreneurs aged 15-22, who have started and are actively running innovative social ventures or for-profit businesses with potential.
The Anzisha Prize seeks to award young entrepreneurs who have developed and implemented innovative solutions to social challenges or started successful businesses within their communities. 12 finalists from across Africa will win an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to be a part of a week-long entrepreneurship workshop and conference at the African Leadership Academy. The grand prize winners, selected from these finalists, will share prizes worth $75,000 USD.
Africa Careers Network
Africa Careers Network (ACN) is a platform that connects young African talent from ALA and the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program to high-impact internship and job opportunities across the African continent.
ACN seeks to build relationships with a wide range of organizations that offer meaningful professional development opportunities to its young leaders in the form of internships and careers. ACN users form a community of talented young people who are committed to contributing to the overall development of the African continent.
Educator Professional Development Programs
The Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership offers a variety of professional development experiences for those interested in our educational model The GSP Educator Program provides the opportunity for certified professional development in the emerging field of youth Entrepreneurial Leadership education. For educators, this program presents an opportunity to see a new model of learning within residential programs. Those who join us will become part of our BUILD certified educators, helping to create an unforgettable experience for students who join our Global Scholars Program. There are also other opportunities available for week-long professional development seminars that focus on introducing entrepreneurship, leadership, and design thinking into a variety of classroom environments.
BUILD-in-a-Box is a portable toolkit that provides content and teaching materials that allows a team of ALA student facilitators to run a professional Entrepreneurial Leadership camp.
African Leadership Academy (ALA) seeks to support ALA students who would like to run entrepreneurial leadership camps across Africa through BUILD-in-a-Box (BIAB); a portable toolkit that provides content and teaching materials that allow a team of facilitators to run a professional TWO DAY Entrepreneurial Leadership camp. The curriculum is based on BUILD, a unique curriculum framework for teaching youth entrepreneurship as a way of fighting unemployment and engaging youth to lead solutions to local problems.
Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
Devised collaboratively by ALA and The Mastercard Foundation, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the African Leadership Academy (MCFSP-ALA) initiative was established under the umbrella of The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program in 2012.
