Gavin Peter, Drama Faculty
Gavin Peter has been teaching theatre for 15 years and joins ALA from Harare International
School, where he was Director of Theatre Arts. He previously worked at Prince Edward School in
Harare, where he was Director of Cultural Activities including public speaking, drama, dance,
poetry and debate. He is a proud Zimbabwean and is the Director of the Speech and Drama Festival, a
national festival for children in Zimbabwe and is a trustee of the Theatre Versus Oppression group.
Gavin is a gifted dramatic performer, with diplomas in Acting, Public Speaking and Recital
from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He is currently studying for his Masters degree
in Theatrical Education through New York University. Gavin turned professional as a performer in
1999 with the internationally acclaimed theatre troupe Over the Edge, a group which has toured
internationally in Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
Gavin enjoys collecting talented youth and giving them an opportunity to showcase their
talents. He has had the opportunity to direct and produce many plays, including West Side Story,
The Glass Menagerie, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Royal Hunt of the Sun, and many African and
original scripts.
