Michael Gyampo, Chemistry Faculty
Michael Gyampo has over 13 years of experience as an IGCSE and IB Chemistry teacher and
currently heads the Science Department of the SOS – Hermann Gmeiner International College in Ghana,
one of the most renowned schools in Africa. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University
of Science and Technology in Ghana. Michael’s lessons are characterized by lively
discussions, presentations, demonstrations, hands-on work, arguments, and a focus on developing
critical thinking and inquiry skills. There is plenty to do from viewing spectra to preparing
artificial flavours and fabrics. Michael says: “We may even attempt to prepare diamond – who knows?
With Chemistry anything can happen!” Michael has worked with students from more than 15 different
countries. He comes to ALA with a wife, three soccer-crazy sons and a daughter who badly wants to
learn ballet dancing.
