Applying for the Term Abroad Program
ALA accepts applications to the term abroad program on the timelines described below. Applicants
will complete a multifaceted application process and will be evaluated on five criteria: Academic
Achievement, Leadership Potential, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Passion for Africa, and Commitment to
Public Service.

Timeline
Students applying to spend the
first or second term abroad at ALA must submit a preliminary round application by
April 1, 2008. Finalists will be asked to submit a second-round application and invited to
interview with ALA in May 2008. Admitted students will be notified by June 1, 2008.
Students applying to spend the
third term abroad at ALA must submit a preliminary round application by
September 15, 2008. Finalists will notified on a rolling basis and will be asked to submit a
second-round application and invited to interview as early as May 2008. All admitted students will
be notified by November 1, 2008.
