Our Campus > Student Activities
Student ActivitiesAt African Leadership Academy, students are encouraged to follow their
passions and interests. They are encouraged to join existing clubs and start new ones. All students
have a highly active life outside the classroom.
Athletics and Fitness
While African Leadership Academy is not a “sports school”, all students are encouraged to
participate in an athletics or fitness activity each quarter. We believe physical fitness and
exercise are an important part of maintaining excellent physical and mental health. On the Academy’s
beautiful sports fields, students can play football, volleyball, basketball, track and field, and
rugby. They can also participate in a broader range of activities through our partnerships with
local athletic clubs and universities.
Student Clubs and Organizations
ALA students can participate in a wide variety of student clubs, including a chess club,
environmental awareness organization, and various drama and dance troupes. If you don’t see a club
you would like to join, you are encouraged to be an entrepreneur and start your own!
Community Service
ALA students can get involved in local schools and communities through our various community
service programs. Students participate in a wide variety of activities, from tutoring programs on
campus to community clean-up efforts.
Supervised Trips
African Leadership Academy students can explore the local community, Africa, and the world by
participating in our trips program. Outdoors enthusiasts can participate in weekend hiking trips in
the Drakensberg mountains and longer excursions during holiday periods, while budding scientists
may apply to attend the American Academy for the Advancement of Science conference in the United
States. All trips are led by qualified ALA faculty and staff.
