ALA Opens 2009 Application Process

August 22, 2008

After several months of hard work, the ALA Admission Team successfully attracted applications from 1700 students in 39 African countries, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, who hoped to join our inaugural class this September. The strength of last year's applicant pool significantly exceeded our expectations, and we thank each student who made our admissions process competitive. We were ultimately able to offer 106 outstanding young leaders admission to our inaugural class.

Arriving on campus in September 2008, members of our inaugural class represent 29 distinct nationalities and come from a variety of ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. These exceptional students will join African Leadership Academy with proven records of success in scholarship, leadership, enterpreneurship, and public service. To learn more about selected students from our inaugural class, please click here.

We are already preparing to identity the next group of young leaders who will join ALA, and once again seek applications from the most outstanding students across Africa - and around the world. We are specifically looking for applicants that best fit out selection criteria of academic excellence, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spririt, passion for Africa, and commitment to public service. Candidates for admisson should believe that they have the potential to change the world; be among the top students at their current schools; and be excellent cultural ambassadors in ALA's pan-African community. We encourage interested students, teachers, and principals to visit our Admissions page for more information about our application process.

In addition to our 2-year program, ALA is proud to offer gap-year and term abroad opportunities for students residing overseas. Gap-year students must join the Academy in September 2009. Students pursing the term abroad option may apply for entry in January or Septermber 2009. We invite students and parents interested in gap-year or term abroad options to click here for further information.

If you think ALA might be the place for you, we strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible. The first-round application deadline for all programs is 1 December 2008.
