Student Applications Rolling In!

With less than a month to go before our January 25th application deadline, African Leadership
Academy has already received over
825 applications from outstanding young leaders in 30 countries across the
continent - enough to fill our inaugural class many times over!
Our applicant pool to date is 51% female and 49% male, and includes top students from North,
East, West, and Southern Africa. Our applicant pool includes top performers on national
examinations, winners of national and international math, science, and civics competitions, and
young entrepreneurs who have started businesses in agriculture, computer programming, and jewelry
design. Many have achieved despite incredible hardship: some are orphans who have served as the
sole breadwinner for their families, while others have taught themselves due to high rates of
teacher absenteeism. Our applicants consistently remind us of the incredible power of youth to
effect dramatic positive change.
There is still time for young leaders across the continent and around the world to apply to
join the ALA community. The first round application deadline is January 25th. To learn more about

French. In the preliminary
application stage, each student must describe a need they identified in their community (such as
their family, school, village, or town) and the actions they have taken to address this need. After
all first round applications have been reviewed, finalists will be selected and invited to complete
a detailed finalist application.
