Matthew (Matt) is part of the Global Programs team and works with the Academy’s Operations and Marketing teams on formalizing conferencing at ALA, as well as with Faculty on the Model African Union program. He joined ALA in 2019 as a Creative Arts and Events Consultant which saw him organize ALA’s annual event, Taalu.

Matt is responsible for ALA’s conferencing and hosting of local and international partnered business schools and universities. In addition, Matt is responsible for coordinating the African Leadership Academy Model African Union program by working closely with students interested in African politics and issues of international relations.

Matt is an Ethnomusicology and Arts Management graduate with interests in the creative economy and its intersection with cities. Matt has also been involved in student politics, leadership and governance having occupied the position of Rhodes University SRC President during his undergraduate years. In 2019, he graduated from Wits University with a Masters degree in Cultural Policy and Management. He considers himself an avid cultural advocate and global citizen. His work experience spans contributions in youth development, creative and events consulting spaces.

Matt Maralack is part of the Advisory program at ALA and deeply values his role as a mentor to 6 ALA students.
