Sydney Newman

University Support Associate

Sydney is an Associate on the University Support team. Sydney supports African Leadership Academy Alumni and MasterCard Foundation Scholars at universities across North and South America.

Sydney provides psychosocial and professional support to university students in the ALA network. Through her work, she develops and strengthens university partnerships in her region. Sydney is based in New York City and travels frequently in North America to conduct campus visits.

Prior to joining ALA, Sydney worked in immigration services at a non-profit for refugees in her home state of Minnesota. There, she predominately assisted East African prospective citizens by facilitating their applications for naturalization and provided advice under the guidance of the Department of Justice accredited representatives. Sydney came into her role at ALA shortly after completing graduate school in California.

On the University Support team, Sydney leads the Peer Support Program in collaboration with her department and the Wellness Team on campus. In the ALA Network, she connects with external partners in New York City and through her travels across the North American continent.
