ALA Clenches Derby Day Cup

Over the past weekend, African Leadership Academy became Derby Day champions once again – two years in a row! It has been a season of hard work and it has paid off as we narrowly edged out Maru-a-Pula School on the standings to defend the Derby Day title. The trophy is back on the ALA campus until we host the next edition of Derby Day in 2019.

The victory would not have been possible without the coaches and teams that worked hard over the season. The excellent work is owed to each and every one of the coaches, for taking their players on a wild journey this season, mentoring them on and off the field and becoming more than a sports coach to each of the players under their care.

The weekend was a success, not only because of the win but due to all the staffulty who ensured that everything went smoothly over the weekend.

The captains of the various teams displayed dedication and sacrifice that ensured that their teams were well prepared; the early morning practice sessions, the extra time spent with the teammates to teach them a chess move or defense strategy, all paid off in the end.

Congratulations to the players! Their commitment and planning and balancing all their schoolwork and extracurricular activities made all the difference.

Next year’s Derby Day will surely be another great success; we shall emerge victorious once more.

Below is a gallery of the weekend’s events.
