At ALA, we are passionate about developing leaders who inspire through both action and creativity. In January 2025, our ALApella team had the incredible honor of performing at the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony in Abu Dhabi. Their performance was truly captivating, showcasing the remarkable talent, energy, and spirit of our students on a global stage.

This year’s ALApella team featured:
- Wema Wambugo Marandu ’23 (Kenya)
- Palesa Relebohile Moiloa ’23 (Lesotho)
- Sam Tafadzwa Mutasa ’23 (Zimbabwe)
- Sylivester Sebastian Mulungu ’23 (Tanzania)
They were joined by ALA staff member Mr. Jack Nkuna and alumni Stephanie Mijiga ’22 (Malawi), Mukudzeishe Madzivire ’21 (Zimbabwe), and Wuntia Gomda ’17 (Ghana).
The Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony, a cornerstone event of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, celebrates innovators who dare to imagine and build a more sustainable world. By adding their voices to this global gathering, the ALApella team demonstrated that leadership takes many forms—one of which is the ability to connect and inspire through the universal language of music.
Reflecting on the experience, Palesa Moiloa ’23 shared, “Being part of something this significant reminded us of the power of our voices—not just in music but in the stories we tell and the change we create.”
But this wasn’t just another performance. It was a vivid expression of ALA’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded leaders who inspire through a variety of mediums. The ALApella team didn’t just sing—they brought stories, culture, and dreams to life on an international stage, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of listening.
As the team returns to campus, they carry with them not only the memories of an extraordinary experience but also a renewed determination to make an impact—on stage, in their communities, and across the world. Their journey is a powerful reminder of how creativity and leadership work hand in hand to shape a brighter, more sustainable future.
At ALA, we are proud of our students for continually proving that leadership is more than just a skill—it’s an art form. And when infused with purpose, it truly has the power to change the world.
