Nia: Your Ultimate Productivity Companion

Sylivester Mulungu ’23 (Tanzania) is the founder of Nia, a mobile app that helps users stay organized by managing tasks and tracking habits. He first beta-tested Nia with his peers at ALA and now hopes to refine the app further and expand its features to better support young people. Read Sylivester’s reflection below.

The past two years at the African Leadership Academy have taught me that time is the most valuable and most limited resource we all have been given equally. Between classes, leadership projects, and personal commitments, I often felt overwhelmed, struggling to stay on top of my tasks, habits, and ideas. Existing productivity tools either had too many features I didn’t need or lacked the simplicity I wanted, or were simply too expensive. I, therefore, decided to build Nia: a habits, tasks, and notes management app designed for students, by a student. Nia helps you track the progress of your habits on a visual heatmap, manage your tasks, and organise your notes all in one app.

Nia is just the beginning. It is the first in a series of free apps I’m developing to boost productivity in educational spaces. My goal? To give students and busy individuals the tools they need to work smarter, not harder.

The App is projected to be officially released on Play store in mid-June after the final review process by Google has been completed.

Penye Nia, Pana Njia. (Where there is a will, there is a way.)

Built with the student in mind,

Sylivester Sebastian Mulungu.
