ALA’s Class of 2023 Reflects on Their Journey

As the Class of 2023 graduated on June 19, 2025, we took a moment to look back—literally.

A few Year 2 students were invited to revisit video recordings they had made during their first year at African Leadership Academy. These clips captured their early reflections, full of hope, curiosity, and questions about the journey ahead.

Nearly two years later, they watched those younger versions of themselves and reflected on how much had changed.

What emerged was a deeply personal and moving time capsule. These side-by-side moments revealed quiet but powerful transformations. From changes in voice and confidence to shifts in mindset, purpose, and self-awareness, each student’s story illustrated the growth that happens over time.

Their reflections remind us that leadership at ALA is not only about projects, titles, or public achievements. It is also about internal growth. It is about exploring identity, learning from mistakes, embracing responsibility, and growing into someone who leads with integrity and purpose.

This video captures more than just how far they have come. It reveals who they have become and who they are still becoming.
