ALA graduates continue to work together even after graduation, and are rewarded for their pioneering work.
Two teams of ALA graduates from the inaugural class won the $10,000 Kathryn Davis Prize for Peace for their projects in Kenya and Morocco respectively.
Colorado College sophomore Benjamin Munyao and first-year Westminster College student Joseph Munyambanza were recognized for their project, “Vijana Amkeni Sasa Initiative: Creating a Peaceful Society in Kenya.” Their project aims to address root causes for the post-election violence in Kenya in 2008 with the goal of breaking the cycle of youth involvement in election violence. Middlebury College sophomore Jihad Hajjouji and Tufts College frst-year Hafsa Anouar will work on a “National Entrepreneurial Camp,” a 10-day summer camp in Bouznika, Morocco designed to introduce the concept of entrepreneurship to youth aged 16 to 19. The Kathryn Davis Project for Peace is administered on behalf of Kathryn Davis and the Davis United World College Scholars Program, and supports and encourages motivated youth to accelerate efforts for peace in the 21st century.
