Welcome to our Graduation (and More!) Issue
Graduation is a highlight on our annual calendar and this year, as we send another group of impressive young leaders off into the world.
Graduation week is always an introspective period, with Year 2 students reaching the end of their tenure at the Academy with intimate presentations of lessons learnt over the past two years as part of their “Graduation Reflections”. Given the personal scope of these reflections, we are honoured to share two with you: along with their peers, Jonathan Kibe and Sophia Chima have delved deep to reveal the journey of self-discovery ALA has taken them on, and we invite you to peer into their moving accounts.
This decennial year has been a period of deep reflection for ALA. As we celebrate our various achievements and highlights of the past decade, we cannot help but look back at how and where it all started, and this issue is dedicated to the various individuals who have made a significant contribution to our growth and success, particularly Ryan and Jen Phillips-Page, who were instrumental in setting in place the finickity logistics of developing a world-class institution for Africans from all over the continent. It’s been no easy feat, and the memories are pure gold.
As we welcome alumni to our Decennial Indaba this week (It’s in full swing, and you can catch all the action live here), we keep looking back and forward to the significant strides we’ve made in our mission to identify, develop, and connect Africa’s future leaders. Among them is Leroy Mwasaru, ALA’s first student in residence to be named as a Forbes 30 under 30 leader.
This issue is packed with inspiring revelations, including Lesson 5 of Chris Bradford’s Ten Lessons, and we hope you enjoy discovering more about the journeys of the amazing people who make up this great community and strive for impact in Africa and the world.
