On September 12, African Leadership Academy gathered for one of its most treasured traditions: Taalu, our annual welcome celebration. Every year, Taalu ushers in the start of the academic journey, offering both new and returning students a powerful reminder that this campus is more than a school. It is a home.
Rooted in the Sesotho and Setswana word for “welcome”, Taalu is a moment where we pause to ground ourselves in community. It is where we affirm that ALA is a shared garden, diverse, alive, and growing, where each of us belongs and has a part to play in our collective story.
The highlight of the day was the Parade of Nations, a vibrant procession of flags, music, and traditional attire. Students proudly represented their home countries, filling the auditorium with color and energy that celebrated both individuality and unity. The Parade of Nations stood as a powerful expression of cultural pride and mutual respect, reminding us that ALA’s strength lies in its diversity.
