SAIF 2026: Turning Ideas into Lasting Impact

Across the continent, young Africans are full of ideas, creativity, and a strong desire to improve their communities. What often stands in the way is not vision, but the ability to turn that vision into action that lasts.

This is the challenge the South African Ideas Festival, or SAIF, was created to address.

Founded in 2011 and sponsored by the Bezos Scholars Program, SAIF is an annual leadership and entrepreneurship festival that supports young African leaders as they develop practical solutions to real problems. Over the past decade, more than 600 students have taken part, gaining hands-on experience, mentorship, and the tools needed to turn early ideas into viable projects and small businesses.

In 2026, SAIF returns with a sharper focus on impact. Building on last year’s theme, Ideas Worth a Shot, this year’s theme, Ideas to Impact: Leading for Lasting Change, asks a harder question: what happens after an idea gets its first chance? Participants are challenged to think about sustainability, leadership, and long-term value, and to design initiatives that can grow and endure within their communities.

SAIF 2026 places emphasis on follow-through. It encourages young leaders to test their assumptions, learn from failure, and take responsibility for the outcomes of their work. The goal is not just to start something new, but to build something that continues to matter.

At its core, SAIF remains committed to African youth as the drivers of Africa’s future. The festival creates space for learning, collaboration, and honest feedback, helping participants strengthen their ideas and their leadership along the way.

SAIF 2026 is about taking ideas seriously and doing the work required to see them through. It is about leadership rooted in action, community, and lasting impact.
