“Talent is universal, but opportunity is not.”
New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof profiled ALA graduate Paul Lorem on March 29, 2012.
The article describes Paul Lorem’s journey from his civil-war torn home country of South Sudan, through Kakuma refugee camp in northern Kenya, where he was raised by older boys in the refugee camp and first practised his letters by writing in the dust.
Paul attributes his success to “pure luck combined with lots of people helping me.” Paul’s success story is proof positive that “education is the grandest accelerant for human potential.”
