Majak Aniyeth is ALA’s first Echoing Green Fellow!

On 8 June 2017 ALA alumnus Majak Aniyeth was announced as an Echoing Green Fellow and one of the most promising social entrepreneurs in the world. He is one of just 36 Fellows selected from over 3,000 applicants in 164 countries around the world this year. Majak is the Founder of Education Bridge, which seeks to create flourishing communities through peace-building and holistic education. Education Bridge achieves this mission through its school, Greenbelt Academy, a secondary school that selectively recruits and brings together students from different ethnic communities across South Sudan.

The Education Bridge Story

More about Majak

Majak is currently studying at the University of Notre Dame. His dedication to improving educational opportunities in South Sudan led him to found Education Bridge which built a school in Bor, South Sudan. Education Bridge is a non-profit organisation working to promote education and non-violence in the nation.  Besides traditional academic requirements, these students are provided with entrepreneurial skills while expanding classroom learning to include skills in non-violent conflict resolution and negotiation. Majak hopes to eventually create a South Sudan that finds pride and richness in its diversity, and challenge the dominant biased narrative.

He joins our own ALA founders – Fred Swaniker and Chris Bradford – who won the fellowship in 2006 which propelled their plans to launch ALA. Read more about Majak on the Echoing Green website.

Congratulations Majak!
