Uzo Agyare-Kumi

Interim Dean of the Academy

Uzo is an educator and social activist passionate about helping young people develop the skills they need to thrive as confident, productive members of society.

Since 2014, Uzo has held executive positions at African Leadership Academy, including two stints as Dean of the Academy. In addition to her leadership as Dean, she has overseen ALA’s Global Programs and led the Academy’s engagement with parents. She has also supported ALA’s Anzisha Program and is the author of Parenting the Boss, a book and course designed for parents of young entrepreneurs. Uzo returned to ALA in January 2025 to serve as Interim Dean of the Academy.

A dual Nigerian-British citizen, Uzo spent her childhood in both the United Kingdom and Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to eastern Nigeria for her undergraduate studies at the University of Nigeria. She began her career as a teacher at a Catholic school in Calabar, Nigeria, before transitioning to community organizing and social activism. In 2001, she accepted a full-time role as a community organizer with The East London Communities Organization (TELCO), becoming the first Black female community organizer in London. In 2004, she was appointed National Director of the Catholic Association for Racial Justice (CARJ).

After relocating to Ghana with her family in 2006, Uzo worked as a consultant for the Government of Liberia, helping recruit professionals for key roles in the Civil Service. She eventually returned to the education sector, serving as Head of School at Tema International School. Following her distinguished tenure at Tema International School, Uzo was recruited to lead the diploma program at ALA.
