2022 Global Scholars Program Applications are Open

We are inviting youth from all over the world to experience a transformative African leadership camp through the Global Scholars Program (GSP) at African Leadership Academy (ALA).

Over the past 11 years, the Global Scholars Program (GSP) has been a unique experience for our camp graduates where they not only engage in a productive, practice-based and human-centred learning curriculum but most importantly, gain meaningful friendships.

The 10-day and 18-day learning and leisure camps is a platform for young leaders between the ages 13 -19 from around the world to gain tangible skills working with South African entrepreneurs, building leadership skills with peers from all over the world, and exploring the best of what Johannesburg has to offer.

This year, the camp will be held from June 27 to August 18, 2022 at the African Leadership Academy campus in Honeydew, South Africa.

Our campus in Johannesburg offers:

This holiday program presents an opportunity for holistic self-development, cultural exchange, and leadership training through dialogues, mentorship and team-building activities. In the end, we see our leaders being able to communicate articulately and effectively. They are also equipped with the tools to start their own social and civic ventures! This allows them to engage their communities in developing person-centered solutions to pressing issues.

Engage Africa is a three-week (18 day) adventure with a focus on social entrepreneurship and cross-cultural exchange.

Built around African Leadership Academy’s signature Entrepreneurial Leadership curriculum and focused on human-centered design thinking, the Engage program teaches teens to understand global challenges and develop context-specific, innovative solutions.

“The educators were amazing. Always active. Always ready to help us. They were really helpful and challenged us when we were getting too comfortable in our idea, despite it having flaws.” – Lynn Mulwa (Kenya)

Explore Africa is a week-and-a-half long (10 day) leadership and service[KE2]  program.

A shorter version of our Engage Africa offering, at GSP Explore, participants take part in service-learning projects, strengthen self-awareness, and practice leadership and teamwork skills, preparing them to create positive change in Africa and around the world.

“I really enjoyed the program, I think the whole process allowed me to learn a lot about myself and evaluate my goals and the type of leader I want to become” – Arah Elombi (United Kingdom)
